If you are facing rehoming or personal hardship, please call the shelter at (734) 243-3669. We look at each situation to see whether we have open kennel space and resources, or can offer rehoming guidance and pet food pantry support to help keep your pet at home.

Report it to Animal Control
Stray intake and animal law enforcement in Monroe County are handled by Monroe County Animal Control. Found stray dogs must be reported to them.

Scan for a microchip
Bring a found animal to the Humane Society of Monroe County or any local veterinary clinic. Staff will scan for a microchip at no charge.
Look up the chip
If you have the microchip number, find the issuing registry with the AAHA Universal Pet Microchip Lookup.

We provide supplemental dog and cat food to Monroe County families going through temporary financial hardship. Pick-up is during open lobby hours, while supplies last.

After-hours emergencies
For urgent after-hours veterinary care, call a 24-hour emergency hospital. For a stray, an animal bite or a dangerous animal, call Animal Control or the Monroe County Sheriff's dispatch.
